The Storefront for Art and Architecture commissioned 59+ artists, architects, and designers to challenge icons of New York City and propose new understandings of an urban experience for an exhibition of New York neighborhood souvenirs.

We designed BK2STMAPSTAMP for Brooklyn’s Community Board 2. The BK2 area is varied and evolving. Former industrial areas morph into commercial spaces, living spaces, then destinations of affluence and tourism. We introduced a set of stamped textures as new cartographic standards that embody icons of BK2. Personal memory and collective experience inform this geographic information system, capturing and re-presenting our shared spatial and cultural understanding of Brooklyn Heights, Fulton Ferry, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, and Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Eschewing other readily mass-produced souvenirs, BK2STMAPSTAMP maps are made-by-hand, artisanal, one-of-a-kind.
