We designed a system of welcome and wayfinding signs for Brookfield Properties’ Brooklyn Commons, a public campus space in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn. Coined “Brooklyn’s backyard,” the Commons is a vibrant destination for business, education, dining and year-round public programming for the community. Because of the site’s central location, the park and retail spaces are visited by a wide range of audience groups. Our signage system greets all visitors with delightful supergraphics and a warm material palette inspired by Field Operations’ new wood benches and the various earth tones of the surrounding architecture. Using existing colors and elements on site, the system unifies this eclectic thoroughfare, adding moments of fun for frequent visitors and diagrammatic maps to orient newcomers.
