“…To have a physical place in the city dedicated to design and architecture, I don’t think its importance can be understated.”
Built by New York
Celebrating over 20 years of the Center for Architecture
- Environments
Built by New York celebrates the work of architects, designers, and affiliated professionals in the New York City AIA community. It showcases past, current, and future work from members of AIA New York, AIA Brooklyn, AIA Bronx, AIA Staten Island, and AIA Queens. Representing a record-breaking 281 projects and 112 architects across the five boroughs, Built by New York takes over all three floors of the Center for Architecture galleries, providing a snapshot of the community’s impact on the city and the built environment at large.
Inspired by architectural facades and constructed forms, our identity and exhibition design employs a strong typeface with hard and rounded edges and perfect punch-cut counters. These elements fracture into murals, connecting galleries and stairwells, creating a kaleidoscope-like language that reflects the multi-faceted, diverse AIA community and their projects.
“Built by New York truly envelopes the Center, breaking out of dedicated galleries to plaster the stairwell, walls surrounding the sunken auditorium space, and corridors…Appearing in black-and-white compositions as well as with a delicious yellow background in some spaces, the activation successfully breaks up the monotony of the white wall galleries.”
