Background

SCAPE sought an epic new website and identity refresh that reflected the firm’s excellence, scale of work, and depth of research while maintaining their existing brand recognition and a sense of hands-on grit that defines their practice. The new system takes inspiration from elemental qualities of landscapes themselves: sunlight, horizon lines, and the passage of time. A color palette evoking sky, light, water, vegetation and earth reflects the breadth of SCAPE’s practice, growing from an early focus on waterfront and intertidal landscapes to include national built and planning work across scales, typologies, and contexts. Built around a perfect circular “Sunny C,” the logo cycles through three colorways representing elemental qualities of the landscape—anchored by a core muddy brown palette, a nod to the firm’s boots-on-the-ground approach.

The new website brings imagery and video front and center, enabling the firm to better tell stories from the scale of a single material or plant to far-reaching urban and regional plans. Organic layouts, generous negative space, and modular story components create room for deeper dives into process, site history, and design thinking. The end result is a comprehensive system that considers all of the growing firm’s needs—from a detailed diagram labeling toolkit to a dedicated space for big ideas and thought-leadership—helping expand the firm’s identity and impact for decades to come.
